Khairul Haque’s bail rejected in Jubo Dal activist murder case
The court has rejected the bail of former Chief Justice and former Chairman of the Law Commission ABM Khairul Haque in the murder case of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Qayyum Ahad during the July Movement. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia gave the order on Thursday (July 31). Earlier, the court granted Khairul Haque a seven-day remand on Wednesday in a case filed against him for allegedly forging the judgment to cancel the caretaker government system. In the case seeking bail, he was arrested on July 24, produced in court and sent to jail. Khairul Haque’s lawyer Monayem Nabi Shahin said at the bail hearing that ABM Khairul Haque is a former Chief Justice. He was arrested in this case on July 24 for harassment. The incident in the case occurred on July 18 last year. The case was filed on July 6, almost a year after the incident. There is no specific explanation as to why he filed the case after so long. He said that since his retirement till August 5 last year, he was under police guard at home and in his movements 24 hours a day. This information is stored in the relevant police headquarters. On the day of the incident, he was under police guard at his home. He also said that the accused is 81 years old. At this age, he is suffering from various complex diseases. I pray for his bail. If he gets bail, he would have faced trial. If he is given bail, he will not abscond. After the hearing, the court rejected his bail application.
