Daughters of the July Revolution are ‘heroines’ of changing history: Dr. Yunus
Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called the women who participated in the July-August mass uprising in the country the heroines of changing history. He said this at a women’s rally titled ‘Daughters of July, We Will Not Let You Be Lost’ at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday, highlighting the achievements and contributions of the daughters of the July Revolution.
Dr. Yunus said, ‘The level you have taken Bangladesh to is a historic event. What the heroines of this historic event have done in Bangladesh cannot be found anywhere else in the world. There have been many uprisings in the world. But this is completely different. No one inspired you. You participated spontaneously. This is a revolution that you have built entirely by your own hands.’
He said, ‘The girls of Bangladesh, school-college or university students, employees, from wherever they could in the family, all have joined the revolution and have come forward equally and have completely changed it. After August 5, a new Bangladesh has been created. We will build this new Bangladesh, this is our oath.
Remembering the casualties of the mass uprising with respect, Professor Yunus said, ‘We have not forgotten you who have given your lives and been injured.’
The head of the interim government also said, ‘Through the mass uprising, the girls of Bangladesh have shown such strength that the girls of no other country have yet been able to show. In view of this, it must be said-you are far ahead. To be on top is a matter of great fortune. You have got an opportunity and availed of the opportunity and shown that we have the power and we can express it.’
Calling on them to play an active role until the dream of building a new Bangladesh is realized, Professor Yunus said, ‘You have to fulfill the role you have taken to build a new Bangladesh instead of the old Bangladesh. You cannot just leave the responsibility to the government. So you have to be behind it, you have to establish it. You have to build the dream of a new Bangladesh that you have in mind, that Bangladesh all the people of Bangladesh have in mind.’
He also said, ‘Through the July-August Revolution, you have proven that your generation is completely different. You are very strong people. This power has not ended, we will create more exemplary history in front of our world. You have that potential.’
He also told the new generation of girls not to go astray and said, “If you can properly utilize the potential within you, you can build a completely new Bangladesh.” He called upon them to involve themselves in the great work of building not only Bangladesh but a new world.
It was organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare. Participating in it were students of various colleges, universities, and educational institutions who had participated in the anti-discrimination movement in July this year. Working women were also seen participating in it.
