July Movement is not a single achievement of any individual or party: Tarique Rahman’s statement
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has commented that the victory that was achieved on August 5 was not possible for any single party. He said that the July Movement against the Awami League misrule is not the sole responsibility of any party or individual, it is everyone’s. People from all walks of life have contributed or cooperated in this movement. He said these things while attending a meeting organized in London on Wednesday (August 7) evening as the chief guest. A meeting was organized to mark the 41st death anniversary of former minister and Navy Chief and Dr. Zubayda Rahman’s father Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan. At the meeting, Tarique Rahman said, Mahbub Ali Sahib is a patriotic person. He worked for the country. We who do politics, do politics for the people of the country. Today, a change has come in the country. The people of the country have come to know a lot. I would like to request you. Let us take the opportunity that has come to us, to stand by the people. To take the country forward. Let us utilize that opportunity. We work for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh. He further said, today the country has changed through a revolution or political movement. We have worked on behalf of political parties at various times to make this movement successful. The victory that took place on August 5 last year was not possible for any single party. The movement was successful because people from all walks of life took to the streets to make this movement successful. Bangladesh has been free from tyranny. Tarique Rahman said, I have been in exile for almost 17 years. I am also a part of an expatriate like you. There are as many Bangladeshi expatriates around the world who have made the movement against this dictatorial government successful in the past. They have inspired people through social media. I sincerely thank all Bangladeshi expatriates through this program today. Just as you have cooperated in the past, you will also cooperate with the democratic government that comes in the future. Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr. was also present at the meeting held under the chairmanship of the organization’s president, Sadiq Mia.
