Joy and Putul sentenced to 5 years in prison in plot corruption case

A court has sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajib Wazed Joy, to 5 years in prison and a fine of Tk 1 lakh in three separate cases filed by the ACC on allegations of irregularities in the allocation of government plots in Rajuk’s Purbachal project. His daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison in the same case.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-5 announced the verdict today (November 27). Earlier, the court sentenced Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison in these three cases.
The only accused arrested in this case, former Rajuk member Mohammad Khurshid Alam, has also been sentenced to 1 year in prison. Another accused in the case, Saiful Islam Sarkar, has been acquitted. Earlier, special security measures were taken in the court area surrounding the verdict. BGB and police were deployed. Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul have been absconding in these three cases since the beginning.
