Jatka Conservation Week to start from Tuesday
As part of an awareness campaign to increase Hilsa production and conservation, ‘Jatka Conservation Week 2026’ will be celebrated from April 7 to 13. Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid said this at a briefing at the Secretariat on Monday (April 6) afternoon.
He said that all types of fishing will be banned in the Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas for 58 consecutive days from April 15 to June 11. This Jatka Week will be held before this. This program will be celebrated in 20 Hilsa-rich districts of the country. Its inaugural ceremony will be held in Chandpur Sadar.
The briefing said that the government has taken firm and effective steps to bring Hilsa within the purchasing power of the common people. All kinds of measures have been taken to prevent smuggling.
