Jatiya Party office vandalized and set on fire in Khulna
Angry students attacked, vandalized and set fire to Jatiya Party (Japa) office in Khulna. The incident took place at Japa Metropolitan and District Office located at Dakbangla intersection of the city on Saturday around 6 pm.
Locals said, this afternoon, the student crowd gathered at Shibbari intersection in the city. Then around 6:00 pm they marched towards Shahid Hadis Park and when they came in front of JAPA office at Dakbungalow intersection, they got excited. Some people from the procession broke the signboard of Japa office.
Later they entered the office and vandalized various furniture including chairs and tables. They brought out various items from the office and set them on fire. Later they left the venue chanting various slogans against various Japa leaders.
Two units of Tutpara station of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Since this incident, a large number of police have been deployed in front of the party office.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Sadar Police Station. Munir Ul Gias said that 50-60 youths entered the Jatiya Party office with a procession and vandalized some chairs and tables. The police chased them and dispersed them. Police are now deployed. Two plastic chairs from inside the office set fire to outside.
He said that the identity of those who attacked is not yet known. If necessary, the police will be deployed on Sundays as well. If Jatiya Party leaders complain, further legal action will be taken.
Khulna District Jatiya Party President Shafiqul Islam Madhu said that no one was in the party office during Maghrib prayers. Then a group of 50-60 students threw bricks at their office. Then they entered the party office and vandalized the signboard, chair-table, fan, TV. They took some files and papers. Apart from this, they took some chairs, banners and placards and burnt them on the street in front of the party office.
Three said that they will file a case in this incident. Apart from this, he also said that he is announcing the program of protest rally and procession in front of the party office on Sunday evening.
