Jamaat will take to the streets if demands are not met: Nayeb Amir warns

Although the announcement of the chief advisor on holding national elections in February is seen as positive, Jamaat’s Nayebe Ameer Syed Abdullah Md. Taher said that Jamaat will be forced to launch a movement if elections are held without meeting demands. He said these things at a press briefing to give Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s official response to the July declaration at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar in the capital on Wednesday (August 6). Abdullah Md. Taher also said that the chief advisor’s announcement on holding elections in February is positive. However, it would have been better to announce the elections after talking to the political parties. The environment conducive to the elections has not been ensured yet. Terming the July declaration incomplete, he said that the people’s expectations were not reflected in it. The legal basis for the July declaration and charter must be given by the interim government. He said that elections based on the July charter are the aspiration of the nation. Taher also said that fair elections are not possible without the PR system. Expressing his hopes for reforms, genocide trials and fair elections, he said that if elections are held without meeting their demands, Jamaat will be forced to launch a movement.
