Jamaat warns of movement demanding elections through PR system

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has warned of a tough movement if elections are not held through PR system. In addition, a protest program has been announced for five-point demands including a national charter. The party’s Nayeb Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher announced the program at the Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar on Monday (September 15). He said that Jamaat will hold protest marches in Dhaka on September 18, in divisional cities the next day and across the country on the 26th. He also said that without the legal basis of the July Charter, the mass uprising may end in failure. Although Mohammad Taher mentioned that many parties may join the movement with the same demand, he is not willing to call it a simultaneous movement right now. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also said that discussions are underway with parties that believe in the spirit of July regarding this program.
