Jamaat supporter accused of raping woman on promise of blanket

In Companiganj upazila of Noakhali, a Jamaat supporter named Md. Kausar (40) has been accused of inviting a widow (46) to his house on the pretext of giving her a blanket. The victim filed a written complaint with Companiganj police station on Sunday night (January 18) accusing Kausar. Accused Md. Kausar is a resident of ward number 1 of Charkankara union of the upazila.
According to the written complaint, about two months ago, accused Kausar arranged 10 rings from an organization to install a toilet for the woman. On December 27, he invited the woman to his house to bring a winter blanket. The next day (December 28) morning, when he went to Kausar’s house to bring the blanket, he found the woman alone and raped her.
The victim said on Monday (January 19), “Kawsar threatened to kill me and my 20-year-old daughter if I tell anyone about the incident. I did not tell anyone about it out of fear for my life. The accused is a womanizer with an evil nature. I want him to be brought to justice.”
Accused Md. Kawsar said, “I am an active supporter of Jamaat. Some mischievous people in the area have filed a false complaint against me at the police station because I work as an employee of Jamaat candidate Belayet Hossain, who is the symbol of the beard of Noakhali-5 constituency in the upcoming elections.”
Claiming that Kawsar is a Jamaat supporter, Charkankara Ward 1 Jamaat President Md. Sharfuddin Sourav said, “We will investigate on behalf of the party. If Kawsar is guilty, he will be tried. Otherwise, we will not spare those involved in this conspiracy.”
Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nurul Hakim said, “I have received a complaint from the victim woman. The plaintiff filed a written complaint three weeks after the incident. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.”
