Jamaat leader accused of beating and injuring a Chhatra Dal worker
Jamaat leaders and activists have been accused of picking up a Chhatra Dal worker in Rajshahi and beating him with an iron rod, causing serious injury. The incident took place last Friday (October 3) night in the Budhpara area of Motihar police station adjacent to the university.
The injured Chhatra Dal worker is named Rabiul Islam Ashiq (24). He lives in that area. Leaders and activists of the Metropolitan Chhatra Dal rescued Ashiq from Budhpara and admitted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Upon receiving the news, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists rushed to the hospital late at night to see Ashiq.
Rubel Hossain, brother of injured Chhatra Dal worker Ashiq, alleged that a few days ago, BNP posters and banners were put up in the Budhpara area, including ward number 30 of the city. At that time, a leader of the Ward 30 North branch of the Workers’ Welfare Federation, an affiliate of Jamaat, threatened to shoot Ashiq to death. Ashiq was picked up and beaten with rods and seriously injured on Friday night.
He alleged that Jamaat members attacked Ashiq because he was a member of Chhatra Dal.
Meanwhile, after Ashiq was admitted to Ramech Hospital on Friday night, Rajshahi City College branch Chhatra Dal member secretary Imdadul Haque Limon went live on his Facebook. At that time, the injured Ashiq was heard saying that he was sitting at Budhpara intersection on Friday night. At that time, a group of 10/12 people led by Ward 30 Jamaat general secretary Sohel Rana picked him up and beat him with rods and injured him. He was severely beaten.
On the other hand, Chhatra Dal leader Limon, condemning the attack on the Chhatra Dal worker, said, Ashiq was picked up and beaten because he was a member of Chhatra Dal. We will give a befitting reply. When attempts were made to contact Jamaat leader Sohel Rana’s mobile phone on this matter at night and Saturday morning, the number was found to be switched off.
In this regard, RMP Motihar Police Station OC Abdul Malek said, he heard about the incident of beating up Chhatra Dal activist Ashiq last night. However, no complaint has been received yet. Further legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
