Jamaat candidate offers to provide auxiliary police, claims police station OC
A video of a conversation between Atiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsarai police station in Chittagong and Jamaat’s nominated candidate for Chittagong-1 constituency (Mirsarai) and Deputy Attorney General Saifur Rahman has gone viral on social media.
In which the Jamaat candidate tells the OC, ‘If you want logistical support, if you think you need auxiliary police as assistants to the police, then I will provide people from Shibir-Jamaat. If you think you need detectives, then you form an detective team on a union basis, I will provide special people.’
Saifur Rahman claims that he told the OC this while talking to the police station on November 20 about stopping robberies in Mirsarai. Saifur Rahman further told the OC, “The number of robberies is increasing in Mirsarai, if we could have caught one or two robbers on standby and punished them, brought them to the attention of the public, then maybe everyone would have thought that action-based work is happening more.”
Expressing his sincere desire for cooperation, Jamaat candidate A-O said, “Now we cannot conduct raids in every house to catch robbers. Rather, they will mark us as robbers.” In the video, the Jamaat candidate can be heard saying, “I am talking to the person in charge of DGFI here on the phone. I had also told the person in charge of SB earlier. I said, look, you are all involved in this, if you give information, the police will take action.”
OC Atiqur Rahman can also be heard speaking in the video. At that time, he said, “We need your cooperation at this moment. You should cooperate with me for at least 15 days, see what the result is. I am very happy and satisfied with what you proposed initially.” “Your social workers, who are there, they form teams in every neighborhood, in every neighbourhood, we will create a WhatsApp group, they will be connected to my police. I will be directly connected. I will supervise them in the field, I will provide them security.”
