Jamaat candidate boycotts election in Sherpur-3 constituency, alleging irregularities

Jamaat’s nominated candidate Masudur Rahman has announced a boycott of the ongoing election in Sherpur-3 (Srivardi-Jhenaigari) constituency, alleging various irregularities. The party alleges that the agent of the candidate with the scale symbol was thrown out of the center and there were incidents of fake voting and mass sealing. Despite informing the presiding officer and police about these incidents, no remedy was found.
Seeing that a fair election is not possible in this situation, Jamaat candidate Masudur Rahman announced a boycott of the election at a press conference today (April 9) at 3 pm. Earlier in the afternoon, at a press conference held at the Jamaat central office, the party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar alleged various irregularities in the by-elections in Bogra-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies.
It is worth noting that this constituency, which consists of Srivardi and Jhenaigari upazilas, has a total of 17 unions and one municipality. 128 polling stations have been set up here for 4,13,377 voters. Of these, 28 stations have been identified as ‘risky’ and additional security measures have been taken. No polling was held in this constituency in the 13th National Parliament elections held nationwide on February 12 due to the death of a candidate. Therefore, the elections are being held here today, Thursday.
