Jamaat Amir questions what is happening in Gopalganj
Condemning and protesting the attack on the National Citizens Party (NCP) rally and convoy in Gopalganj, Bangladesh Jamaat Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has urged the government to take appropriate action. In a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 16), the Jamaat Amir also warned that the government will have to take responsibility if appropriate action is not taken in the wake of the attack. In the Facebook post, the Jamaat Amir wrote, ‘Gopalganj is part of Bangladesh. As far as I know, the NCP leaders have already held discussions with the administration at all levels in a normal manner and have sought assistance in implementing their program, which is their political right. But in the current situation, practically no presence of law enforcement agencies can be observed on the ground. The government must take all necessary steps very soon. Otherwise, the full responsibility of history will fall on the government.’ He further wrote, calling on the anti-fascist forces to unite, ‘We call on the people of the concerned areas to refrain from all kinds of chaos and sincerely call on the peace-loving, anti-fascist people to unite. May Allah Almighty send His help for truth and justice. Amen.’ In the afternoon, leaders and activists of the banned organization Chhatra League attacked the NCP convoy on its way from Gopalganj to Madaripur. The attack was carried out on the way back to Madaripur after the July march in Gopalganj around 3 pm. Earlier, attacks were also carried out on their rally. However, there have been no reports of casualties so far. The police and the army are trying to bring the situation under control.
