Israeli airstrikes kill 10 in Lebanon overnight: CNN
At least 10 people were killed and many more injured in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon overnight, US media outlet CNN News reported. A report published on Monday (April 6) said that five people, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed in an attack in the Janah area of south Beirut.
Another attack killed three people in the Ain Saade area northeast of the city. In addition, an airstrike in the Tul area south of Beirut killed a couple and wounded their two children, aged 9 and 15. In a statement today, the Israeli military claimed that the attack targeted rocket launchers and weapons depots hidden behind civilian installations in Lebanon.
Since the beginning of March, Israel has intensified its attacks on Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the death toll in the attacks and ground operations has reached 1,461. Hezbollah, on the other hand, has continued to fire rockets. It claimed to have launched more than two dozen attacks on Sunday and at least four today.
Meanwhile, more than 80 towns and villages in Lebanon have been almost completely deserted as of Friday. According to the Health Ministry, more than 15 percent of the country’s population has been displaced. Amid the tensions, 18 far-right Israeli lawmakers, including members of the ruling Likud party, yesterday called for the destruction of Lebanese villages along the border and the eviction of their residents.
