Israel tried to kill me: Iranian president
Israeli forces reportedly tried to assassinate Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian with a bomb attack.
Asked by US media personality Tucker Carlson whether Israel had tried to kill him, Pezeshkian told him, “Yes, they tried. They acted accordingly, but they failed.”
The British newspaper The Guardian reported that the interview with Carlson, published on Monday (July 7) local time, was conducted through an interpreter. It was the Iranian president’s first interview with Western media since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran last month.
According to a translation of his comments from Persian, Pezeshkian said, “The United States was not behind the attack on me, it was Israel. I was in a meeting … they tried to bomb the area where we were meeting.”
However, the Iranian president did not specify whether the attack was an attempt during the recent war.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump claimed that he stopped Israel from trying to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
