Israel not held accountable for attacks on Iran will face dire consequences: Iranian Foreign Minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that if Israel is not held accountable for its attacks on Iran, “the entire region, including the world, will suffer the consequences.” He made the remarks in a speech at the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday (July 6). The Iranian foreign minister said, “The attacks by the United States and Israel on our nuclear facilities are a gross violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which unanimously approved Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in 2015.” In June, Israel suddenly attacked several Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated. The United States attacked three important Iranian nuclear facilities amid the conflict between the two neighbors. Araghchi said that the US attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities leaves no doubt about the full cooperation of the American government in Israel’s aggressive war against Iran. Iran received the support of other member states of the BRICS Plus alliance at the conference held in Rio de Janeiro. At the conference, the BRICS Plus alliance condemned the recent air strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran. The 11-nation alliance said that these attacks violate international law. The statement said that we condemn the military attacks launched against the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 13, 2025. They expressed deep concern at the “deliberate attacks” on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, including civilian infrastructure. In addition, the BRICS leaders expressed deep concern about the ongoing violence in Gaza. At the same time, they called for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a lasting peace through a “just and equitable solution” to the Palestinian issue.
