Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Rejects Nuclear Talks with US
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that Tehran will not hold direct talks with the US over its nuclear program. He said this in a televised address on Tuesday (September 23).
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that talks with the US government in this situation are not beneficial for us in any way. And it will not prevent us from any harm. On the contrary, it can cause irreparable harm to the country. If we do not sit for talks, the other side is making various threats. Taking these threats into account will reveal our own weaknesses. America breaks promises in everything, lies in everything, deceives, threatens military aggression. If they get the chance, they will kill more people and bomb nuclear facilities. It is impossible to talk with them in such a situation.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said during his speech to the UN General Assembly that Iran will never be able to possess nuclear weapons. At the time, he also referred to Tehran as the ‘number one state sponsor of terrorism in the world’.
On the other hand, Western countries have accused Tehran of violating its nuclear commitments. The allegations include building up a uranium stockpile 40 times higher than the level allowed under the 2015 nuclear deal. Although Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018. However, Tehran has always denied the allegations. They claim that this nuclear activity is carried out as part of a peaceful program.
