Iran’s future depends on three top leaders
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, a three-member leadership council has been formed to provide leadership in this special situation following the death of the country’s supreme leader.
The council includes Iran’s current president, the head of the judiciary and a representative of the Guardian Council. According to Iran’s constitution, the council will temporarily carry out all the duties of the country’s top positions until the Assembly of Experts elects a new permanent supreme leader.
The announcement marks the beginning of the constitutional process of transferring power in Iran’s political structure. The new leadership council will now have the highest authority to make military and political decisions in the country. The three members are now responsible for maintaining the country’s stability at this critical moment and electing the next successor as soon as possible.
