Iranian President Reiterates Khamenei’s 2000 ‘Fatwa’ on Nuclear Issue
Iran is developing nuclear weapons – Western countries have repeatedly made such allegations. The United States has recently threatened military action against Tehran over the same allegation. However, as always, the Middle Eastern country has denied the allegations.
Regarding nuclear weapons, Iranian President Masoud Pazhoqian has said that Iran will not develop these weapons. He confirmed this information by citing a ‘fatwa’ from around 2000. At that time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a religious decree banning the development of nuclear weapons. He stated in the fatwa that weapons of mass destruction are prohibited.
Referring to this, the Iranian president said, ‘This clearly shows that Tehran will not develop nuclear weapons.’ Pazhoqian made this statement in a speech before the start of the third round of nuclear talks with the United States. However, Washington still accuses Tehran of trying to develop nuclear weapons.
