Iran seizes Bangladeshi sailors along with oil tanker

Iran has seized an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The tanker was carrying 18 sailors from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Iranian media reported that the ship was seized between the night of Friday (December 12) and Saturday (December 13).
Meanwhile, Fars News Agency reported, citing an official in the southern province of Hormozgan, that an oil tanker carrying six million liters of smuggled diesel was raided near the coast of the Sea of Oman. It was also claimed that the ship had shut down all its navigation systems. Earlier, Iranian forces have regularly announced the seizure of ships on charges of illegally transporting fuel in the Gulf.
In addition, Iran seized an oil tanker last month on charges of carrying unauthorized goods in Gulf waters. At the same time, the country also rejected the idea that this was a retaliatory measure against another country. Notably, the ship was seized by Iran two days after the United States seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.
