Iran has never sought to develop nuclear weapons: Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran has always sought stability, peace and regional security and has never sought to develop nuclear weapons due to its fundamental principles. Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with the new Swiss ambassador to Iran, Olivier Bangert, on Tuesday (October 7) evening.
During the meeting, the Iranian president said, “Iran is firmly committed to stability, peace and security in the West Asian region.”
“Switzerland has been a historical bridge of communication between Tehran and Washington since the victory of the Islamic Revolution,” he said.
The Iranian president urged Ambassador Bangert to convey to US officials that Iran has never sought to develop nuclear weapons and has always adhered to its fundamental principles and policies.
Pezeshkian praised Switzerland’s constructive, neutral and balanced stance among European countries, especially in international disputes.
He expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s cooperation in the pharmaceutical and food sectors, despite the challenges posed by sanctions and wrong policies of the United States and some European countries.
On the other hand, Ambassador Bangarter expressed his pleasure at starting his mission in Iran and outlined his main goals. These are to further strengthen bilateral relations between Tehran and Bern and to strengthen Switzerland’s role as a reliable communication bridge between Tehran and Washington.
The ambassador assured that he will spare no effort to achieve these goals and will try to reflect the culture, history and hospitality of the Iranian people.
