Iran fires three missiles at Qatari oil tanker

Amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf, Iran fired three missiles into Qatar’s northern waters. A crude oil tanker belonging to the country’s state-owned oil company Qatar Energy was damaged in the attack on Wednesday morning (April 1).
Qatar’s Defense Ministry said two of the missiles were successfully intercepted by air defenses, but a third hit the vessel. Al Jazeera reported this.
Qatar Energy confirmed in a statement that the vessel was called ‘Aqua-1’. There were 21 sailors on board at the time of the attack. In a post on social media, Qatar’s Defense Ministry strongly condemned the attack. The ministry clarified that two missiles were destroyed in the air, but one missed its target and hit the tanker.
International analysts believe that the attack has once again put important waterways like the Persian Gulf at a major security risk. Such an attack on the coast of Qatar could negatively impact the region’s oil exports and the normal movement of commercial ships.
