Innovative protest demanding control of noise pollution at TSC.
Dhaka University (DU) students staged a unique protest by playing sound boxes in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence demanding control over excessive noise pollution at TSC.
They staged this unique protest by playing sound boxes on Saturday night. It started at 8:45 pm and continued till 11 pm. During this time, various Hindi songs were played in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence.
Iritta, a student of DU’s Shamsun Nahar Hall, said, “The problem of noise pollution at TSC is old. Now outsiders are regularly playing songs and gatherings at TSC without any permission. Even after midnight, songs are played. Students of Shamsun Nahar Hall and Rokeya Hall are facing the most problems. The administration is playing a silent role in this regard.”
She also said, “November-December is the exam season. These are happening at this time too. The administration knows about them. Although the administration has assured to stop these things, we have not seen anything visible. So we are protesting by playing music in front of the Vice Chancellor’s house. At least Vice Chancellor Sir should understand how we feel about this.’
Later, the program was ended around 11 pm with the assurance of the university proctor and officials.
Meanwhile, in the face of students’ demands, the university authorities have banned any program using microphones on the campus after 6 pm. This information was given in a notification sent by the Public Relations Office around 11 pm.
