Information on withdrawal of 50 percent army personnel is a rumor: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the information on withdrawal of half the army personnel from the field due to selective training and rest is not correct. He said this while talking to reporters after the regular core committee meeting with law enforcement agencies at the Secretariat on Sunday (November 9) afternoon. The Home Affairs Advisor said that 50 percent of the deployed army will be withdrawn, this is not true and it is a rumor.
Earlier, news was published in various media outlets in the country last Tuesday that a decision to withdraw 50 percent of the army personnel was taken in a meeting of the core committee of law enforcement agencies in the meeting room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat. Such information was disseminated quoting two top government officials present at the meeting. However, today the Home Affairs Advisor dismissed such news as a rumor.
In the law and order situation that emerged after the fall of the Awami League government in the student uprising, the armed forces (army, navy, and air force) were given the powers of special executive magistrates on September 17 last year.
