    Indian police have handed over 12 women, men and children to Bangladesh.

    After serving 2 years in prison in India, Indian police have handed over 12 Bangladeshi women, men and children to Bangladesh through Benapole check post.

    Indian police handed them over to Benapole Immigration Police through a special travel permit issued by the Indian government.

    This Saturday morning, India’s Petrapole Immigration Police handed over the smuggled Bangladeshis to Benapole Immigration Police.

    Members of the BGB-BSF, customs, police and intelligence agencies of both countries were present at the time. After all the formalities, they were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station by the Immigration Police this morning.

    The homes of the returning women and men are in different places in Madaripur, Bagerhat and Chapainawabganj districts. There are 10 men and 2 women among the returnees.

    In this regard, Benapole Check Post Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge Imtiaz Md. Ahsanul Quader Bhuiyan said that they went to Kolkata, India, 4 years ago in the hope of good work. While working in various shops and houses there, the police arrested them and handed them over to the court on charges of illegal entry. Later, the court sentenced them to 2 years in prison and sent them to jail. After the sentence, they were sent back to their country through a special travel permit after exchanging letters between the high-level officials of the two countries.

    Meanwhile, Benapole Port Police Station OC Russell Mia said that there are cases against 3 of the returnees in various police stations in Bangladesh.

    (1) Md. Suman Sarkar (30) is under trial in the learned court under Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Case No. 41/426 dated 19 September 2021, Hatirjheel Police Station Case No. 14/556 dated 07 March 2023, Sirajganj Salanga Police Station Case No. 09 dated 13 December 2018, Gazipur Tongi Police Station Case No. 07, dated 04 January 2017 under the Narcotics Control Act 1990. There are a total of 04 cases.

    (2) There is a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act under the DMP Police Station Case No. 33 dated 20 November 2022 under the Anti-Terrorism Act against Md. Omar Faruk (25) of Kansaralkandi area of ​​Narsingdi.

    (3) There is a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act under the DMP Kotwali Police Station Case No. 33 dated 20 November 2022 under the Anti-Terrorism Act against Md. Riazul Islam (25) of Kashem Nagar area of ​​Khulna.
