‘Indian Idol’ winner Prashant Tamang passes away

Popular Indian singer and actor Prashant Tamang, the winner of the third season of ‘Indian Idol’, has passed away. He died at his home in New Delhi on Sunday (January 11). He was 43. Producer Rajesh Ghatani and Prashant’s close friend Amit Pal confirmed his death.
According to Indian media reports, he died due to a brain hemorrhage. However, the official medical report of his death is yet to be released. It is learnt that he had recently returned to Delhi after a live performance in Arunachal Pradesh. Prashant Tamang gained wide recognition after winning Indian Idol in 2007. Through this achievement, he became a symbol of pride for the Indian Gorkha community and took Nepali music to new heights.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Raju Bista said in a condolence message, “Prashant Tamang’s untimely death is an irreparable loss to the Gorkha community and the music industry. By winning Indian Idol, he united and made the Gorkha community proud not only in the Darjeeling Hills, Terai, Dooars, Sikkim and North-East India, but also across the world.”
After his success in the music industry, he made his film debut in 2010 with the Nepali film ‘Gorkha Paltan’. He then acted in several films including ‘Angalo Maya Ko’, ‘Kina Maya Maa’, ‘Nishani’, ‘Pardeshi’.
His presence on television was also notable. He made a guest appearance in the serial ‘Amber Dhara’ and was later seen in a pivotal role in the second season of the popular web series ‘Paatallok’. Prashant Tamang’s death has brought deep sorrow to the Indian music and film industry, especially the Gorkha community.
