Indian arrested in US for alleged child sex abuse
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested an Indian national on charges of sexually abusing and stealing from a 13-year-old child. The accused has been named as Vodela Yashasvi Kottapalli. In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), ICE called him a ‘criminal illegal alien’ and a ‘child rapist’. He has been charged in the state of New Jersey with specific charges of sexual assault and theft.
ICE said Kottapalli was living in the US as an undocumented immigrant. He not only faces sex crimes but also charges of shoplifting and disorderly conduct. He is currently in ICE custody and is being processed for removal under US immigration law. However, the exact date of his arrest or details of the crime have not yet been released.
The Trump administration’s second term has seen a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants. As part of the campaign, the US Department of Homeland Security has released a list of 25,000 “dangerous criminal illegal immigrants”, including murderers and sex offenders. Notably, 89 of the US’s “worst of the worst” list are of Indian origin. According to the Indian government, more than 3,800 Indians were deported from the US in 2025 under Trump’s anti-immigration campaign.
President Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the border on his first day in office and vowed to deport criminal immigrants en masse. Although ICE’s campaign in various states has sparked heated debate and criticism from Democrats and Republicans, the administration has stood by its stance and continues to identify and arrest criminals.
