India will not ‘kneel’ to America: Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal
US President Donald Trump has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods. And it will be effective from the 27th of this month. All in all, it is clear that the relationship between Delhi and Washington is not very pleasant. This is the first time that Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has opened up on the issue. Speaking at an event in New Delhi on Friday (August 29), Minister Piyush made it clear that his country will not ‘kneel’ to America. Rather, they will look for new markets. After returning to power this year, US President Trump has been using tariffs as a tool. Trump wants more US access. But Delhi is reluctant to give it. Narendra Modi wants to protect the interests of his country’s farmers. In 2024, the US was India’s top export destination. India exported goods worth about $87.3 billion to the country. According to analysts, the imposition of 50 percent duty will severely affect small and medium traders. Commerce Minister Goyal said that India will continue all kinds of initiatives to boost the export sector in the future and export earnings will exceed 2024-2025 in the future.
