India will have positive relations with Bangladesh
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar believes that India’s relations with the two neighboring countries will remain “positive and constructive” even if there are new governments in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He made this comment while talking to reporters after a program yesterday local time in New York, United States of America.
According to Indian media India Today, Jaishankar claimed that India does not want to control the politics of any neighboring country. He said, ‘I would request everyone not to reach any preconceived notions about the relationship. It is not that India wants to control the politics of all its neighbours. Don’t go like this, don’t be like that. It is not only us, but equally true for everyone.’
India has given unconditional help to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Loans have also been given, but the new governments of both countries seem to be anti-India. India’s Foreign Minister drew attention to this and said, ‘At the end of the day, each neighbor will move at its own pace with its own way of thinking. We will not tell them that your flow should be according to our liking. We do not want to say so. This is true in today’s world. Each country sets the policy according to its own preferences. Others have to understand that. That’s the way to proceed.
Referring to the fact that something new happens in the Indian subcontinent every few years, Jaishankar said, “Something happens in our region every few years.” Then it seems that whatever is happening is inviolable. But it can be seen that change has come. The turn of correction has begun. Something new happened. I see current events in this light. I am strongly confident that our relationship will move forward positively and constructively in both cases (Bangladesh and Sri Lanka).’
