‘India should understand that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh’.

Angry Indians attacked and vandalized the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission building in Agartala, Tripura, India. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has described the incident as ‘deeply regrettable’. However, since Monday night, many people have been expressing their anger and condemnation on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Adviser on Law and Justice Dr. Asif Nazrul has also posted on his verified Facebook, strongly protesting the incident. He has termed the incident ‘disgusting’.

In the Facebook post, the Adviser on Law wrote, “Today, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India was vandalized, and Bangladeshi firecrackers were set on fire. Members of an organization called Hindu Sangharsh Samiti have committed this despicable incident. (I ask, what kind of aggressive campaign would India have launched if an organization called ‘Muslim Sangharsh Samiti’ had committed this incident in Bangladesh?)”

In the post, Asif Nazrul also referred to international law to provide security to embassies of a country. He wrote, ‘According to international law, the Indian government is responsible for providing complete security to the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh on Indian soil. They have failed to do this. I condemn this failure.’

Meanwhile, the legal advisor also mentioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement on Bangladesh. In this regard, he wrote, ‘I condemn West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata’s statement. What is happening in different parts of India, on the minorities and Dalit communities, on the contrary, India (and Mamata) should be ashamed of it.’

Then Asif Nazrul wrote, ‘I tell India, we believe in friendship based on equality and equal rights. Sheikh Hasina’s government believed in the policy of appeasement of India in the greed of staying in power without a vote. However, India should understand that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh. This Bangladesh is independent, sovereign and self-respecting. This Bangladesh is a fearless youth community.’
