‘I have strong arguments, I will win in appeal’ – Confident Tasnim Zara
Independent candidate Tasnim Zara has said that she has strong arguments to appeal against the cancellation of her nomination papers in Dhaka-9 constituency. In this context, she said, we firmly believe that we will win through appeal and will contest this election as your supported candidate. Tasnim Zara said these things in a video message posted on her verified Facebook page on Saturday (January 3) night.
After resigning from the National Citizens Party (NCP), Tasnim Zara submitted her nomination papers as an independent candidate in the 13th National Parliament election in Dhaka-9 constituency. After the verification, the Returning Officer declared her nomination papers cancelled yesterday (January 3) afternoon. In an immediate reaction, Tasnim Zara said that she will appeal against the decision to declare her nomination papers cancelled. The appeal process has begun.
In a video message last night, Tasneem Zara said that after hearing the news of her nomination papers being rejected, many are wondering whether she will be able to contest. She has already said that she is appealing. Her lawyer said that she has strong arguments in the appeal. There are past precedents. Stating that she is optimistic about change in Bangladesh, Tasneem Zara said, “I request you not to be disappointed either.”
In the video message, Tasneem Zara talked about ‘crowd funding’ (collecting money through crowd donations). When she announced that she would contest independently, she said that those who want their money back due to her decision to leave the party (NCP) and contest independently should inform her. So far, 205 people have said that they have sent money to bKash. The process of returning all their money is underway.
Tasneem Zara said that for those who want their money back, she is providing the link to the form in the caption and comments of her post. Those who want their money back will be refunded. Everyone’s money will be refunded. There is no room for doubt about this.
In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Tasneem Zara mentioned that she collected money from the public through ‘crowd funding’ to meet election expenses. The amount of this money was 46 lakh 93 thousand taka.
Tasneem Zara was the senior joint member secretary of the NCP. She resigned from the party over the issue of the NCP’s electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded parties in the national elections. After that, she filed her nomination papers to contest the elections as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-9 constituency.
