‘I am completely innocent’: Abdullah Al Jacob
The court has granted a three-day remand to former MP from Bhola-4 constituency Abdullah Al Jacob. The judge granted the remand application in the case of shooting and killing a man named Shamim Hawlader in the Rupnagar police station area of the capital.
Today, Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Imran Ahmed’s court issued the remand order.
Earlier, the police produced him from jail to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. Then, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Mamun Mia of Rupnagar Police Station, applied for his 10-day remand. The accused’s lawyer applied for the remand to be cancelled and bail granted. At that time, the state opposed the bail.
Then, the judge asked Jacob if he had anything to say. At that time, he told the judge, ‘I was elected MP from Bhola. If you talk to the people of that area, you will know what kind of person I am. There have been no cases in my area so far. I have made a lot of progress there. The plaintiff himself admitted that he made a mistake in the case in which I was accused.’
He also said, ‘The name and address are wrong in this case. I have been implicated in this false case with the intention of harassing me. I know nothing, I am completely innocent. I have never been to the Rupnagar area. Sir, you have rejected my remand.’ But after the hearing, the court rejected bail and ordered a remand.
Incidentally, on October 1, the detective police arrested Jacob from Gulshan in the capital.
According to case sources, Shamim Howlader was shot at the entrance intersection under the Rupnagar police station in the capital on July 20 during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was rescued and taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Shamim died while undergoing treatment there. Shamim’s cousin Samrat Howlader filed a murder case at the Rupnagar police station in this incident. Jacob is accused number 122 in the case.
