I am a devotee of Lord Shiva, will swallow poison: Modi

In a scathing attack on the main opposition Congress, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the people are his ‘lord’ and remote control and he vents his pain in front of them. Amid a heated debate over verbal abuse against himself and his mother late Heeraben Modi, Modi on Sunday (September 14) said that he is a ‘devotee of Lord Shiva’ and will ‘swallow the poison of insults’. “I know the entire Congress ecosystem will target me and say that Modi is crying again. But the people are my God,” he said at a rally in Darrang, Assam, after inaugurating several projects. “If I do not vent my pain in front of them (the people), where will I go? They are my lord, my God and my remote control.” I have no remote control anymore.’ Earlier, Narendra Modi had alleged that his mother was tortured on the opposition’s campaign stage. He made this allegation after criticizing the Congress-RJD alliance in Bihar on September 2. At that time, Modi also said, ‘In Bihar, my mother was abused from the RJD-Congress platform. This abuse has insulted not only my mother but every mother and sister in India. I know you have also suffered like me after hearing this.’ Recalling his mother’s death, he said, ‘After completing 100 years, my mother left us all. My mother, who had nothing to do with politics, had to face a heinous situation from the RJD-Congress platform. This is very sad and painful.’
