Husband sentenced to death for murdering garment worker

The court has pronounced the death sentence on husband Suruzzaman alias Bakul after he was found guilty of murdering his wife. Dhaka’s Fifth Additional Sessions Judge Israt Jahan Munni pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

After the verdict was pronounced, Bakul was sent to jail. Bakul is the son of the late Abdul Majid of Putijana village under Fulbaria police station in Mymensingh district. He is a carpenter by profession.

According to the case source, Bakul hacked his garment worker wife Nazma Akhter to death with an axe at her house in Akrain under Savar police station on the afternoon of June 11, 2019, due to a family dispute. At that time, Bakul’s two daughters Suraiya and Sumaiya caught Bakul with the help of people and handed him over to the police. Nazma’s father Abdul Aziz filed a case with Savar police station the next day, making Bakul the accused.
