Husband pleads guilty in wife’s murder case
Ashikur Rahman (26) has pleaded guilty in the case of his wife’s murder and body being found in a bag in Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur. The court has also ordered that Ashiqur’s younger brother Saiful Islam (24) be sent to jail. The investigating officer of the case, Shahjahanpur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohsin Talukder, produced the two in court on Tuesday (December 2).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana recorded the statement of accused Ashiqur. He was then sent to jail. Another Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam rejected the bail application of accused Saiful and ordered that he be sent to jail.
According to the case details, Ashiqur and Surubi Akhter Mahfuza got married in 2019 due to a love affair and against the reluctance of their families. They have a four-year-old son. They started living in a rented house in Bakshibagh, Malibagh from November 1. On that day, Saiful took his nephew from his house to his village house in Palerchar, Jajira, Shariatpur. There had been a marital dispute between them since their marriage.
In continuation of this, his father Nurul Haque Khan alleged that on November 3, between 1 am and 1:30 am, Ashiqur Rahman and unknown accomplices killed Mahfuza. They tied up the body to hide it and fled the next day around 12 noon. When Mahfuza did not respond, the neighbors started calling her around 1:30 pm. They started banging on the door. At one point, the door opened. People around her saw the plastic bag stuck in the door and informed the police. Later, the police and CID police recovered the body. Nurul Haque filed a case with Shahjahanpur police station on November 4 in this incident.
