Hundreds of cars collide in the United States due to severe snowstorm
A terrible road accident occurred in the US state of Michigan due to severe snowstorm. More than 100 cars lost control and crashed off the highway in a collision. Many people were injured, but no deaths have been reported so far. According to a report by the international news agency Al Jazeera, the terrible accident occurred on Interstate 196 yesterday (January 19) local time.
On this day, Michigan State Police closed both sides of the highway. Later, rescue workers began to remove the cars step by step. Among the vehicles involved in the accident were more than 30 trailer trucks. Meanwhile, Michigan State Police said that many people were injured in the accident, but no one is believed to have died. The trucks and cars are spread on social media!
“The snow was falling on the road with strong winds, and I couldn’t see the cars in front,” driver Pedro Matta Jr. told the Associated Press (AP). “I was only going 20 to 25 miles per hour,” Matta said. “I managed to stop the car somehow. Then I felt like someone was going to hit me from behind and I came to a stop in the middle of the road.” Pedro said, “I just heard a loud bang from behind. I could see what was in front of me, but I couldn’t see what was happening behind me. It was really scary.” Meanwhile, the US National Weather Service has issued severe cold or blizzard warnings for parts of the country from Minnesota to Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Temperatures could drop to minus 22 degrees Celsius (with wind chills) in many areas, including Michigan. Forecasters also warned that temperatures could drop to near or below freezing overnight in north-central Florida and southeast Georgia. The warning also said that authorities are urging drivers to drive with extreme caution and reduce speed as the storm has not yet fully subsided and such accidents could occur again at any time.
