Hundreds of bodies on Sudan streets, no one to bury

Hundreds of people are losing their lives in Sudan’s brutal civil war. Bodies are lying on the streets, and there is no one to bury them. Hundreds of bodies are lying on the streets after violent violence in the city of El-Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state. This information was revealed by a report by the Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera.
The report said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary force killed at least 1,500 people when it took over the city last week. About 460 of the dead were hospitalized in one hospital alone. Now there is no one to bury the bodies.
The United Nations said that civilians trapped in the city are in grave danger. The wounded are lying in the open. About 36,000 people from the city have fled to the city of Tawila, 70 kilometers away, where more than 650,000 displaced people have already taken refuge.
Sudan expert Shayna Lewis described the massacre as “deeply saddening” and said the international community had been warned of the risk of genocide for more than a year but had received little response. She added that satellite images from space showed bloody scenes, with large swaths of land covered in a reddish hue. Humanitarian agencies said the violence-plagued town of El Fasher still faces acute shortages of food, water and medicine.
