Human chain in Gaibandha demanding implementation of Journalist Protection Act and trial for Tuhin murder
A human chain was held in Sundarganj, Gaibandha to protest attacks, cases, torture on journalists across the country and the public killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur. Journalists from print and electronic media participated in the human chain organized by the Sundarganj Sammilit Press Club at the Upazila Parishad premises on Sunday (August 10) afternoon. Speakers at the human chain said that the Tuhin murder is proof of the insecurity not only of journalists but also of the common people. Journalists in various parts of the country are now performing their duties under threats and risks. This situation proves that the safety of media workers is seriously threatened. At the time, the speakers demanded the speedy implementation of the Journalist Protection Act, the arrest of those involved in Tuhin’s murder and exemplary punishment. According to them, if this law is implemented, journalists will be able to perform their duties fearlessly and the path to public rights and truth will be smooth. The human chain, chaired by Daily Karatoya correspondent Shahjahan Miah and moderated by Daily Inkilab correspondent Mosharraf Hossain Bulu, was addressed by Daily Bhorer Darpan correspondent AKM Shamsul Haque, Naya Diganta correspondent Rezaul Islam, Janakantha correspondent Sudipto Shamim, Alokot Bangladesh correspondent Mizanur Rahman, Agrajatra correspondent Jayanta Saha Jaton, Swadesh Bichitra correspondent Shahin Miah, and the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Nur Alam Miah Nur, among others.
