Housewife burnt to death, loan defaulter arrested

In Faridganj, Chandpur, an attempt has been made to burn to death a housewife named Shahnaz Begum Lucky (36) for not being able to pay interest. The incident took place on Friday (September 26) night in Upadik village of Paikpara Uttar Union of the upazila.
The victim of the incident is Shahnaz Begum Lucky, the wife of Aminul Khan of the village. She is currently undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. In this incident, the police have arrested a loan defaulter named Nasima Begum (42). She is the wife of Hafiz Mia, a neighbor of the same village.
Shahnaz Begum’s husband, Aminul Khan, said that they had been in a dispute with loan defaulter Nasima Begum for the past few months over non-payment of interest and stamp duty. In this incident, he had beaten my wife several times in the past. Last Friday night, my wife was tied up from behind, kerosene was poured on her and set on fire.
Later, we all came and rescued her and took her to Chandpur General Hospital. When her condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty sent her to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute from there. Currently, her condition is critical.
Local UP member Abdul Hamid said that locals had formed a human chain against usurer Nasima Begum. When the police did not take any action, they showed more violence and set Shahnaz Begum on fire.
Regarding the incident, Faridganj Police Station OC Mohammad Shah Alam told us that a person named Nasima Begum has been arrested in this incident. Legal action is being taken against her.
