Hostage release deal is Netanyahu’s decision: Army chief
The Israeli army chief said that a deal on the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza is ‘on the table’, and the decision is now in the hands of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli media claimed. IDF (Israel Defense Forces) chief Lieutenant General Yeal Zamir said, ‘The Israeli military has created a situation where a deal is possible,’ and now it is the government’s decision to implement it. Last Tuesday (August 19), the Israeli security cabinet presented a new proposal to mediators regarding the Gaza war and the release of the hostages. That proposal was accepted by the Palestinian independence movement Hamas. However, Netanyahu still favors continuing the invasion of Gaza. It is worth noting that the Netanyahu government is under considerable pressure due to protests by the families of Israeli hostages. They organized a demonstration in front of the homes of ministers in the Netanyahu government, demanding an end to the war and the release of the hostages.
