Honest, ethical and professional officers deserve promotion: Chief Advisor

Officers who are honest, ethical, professional and have leadership qualities deserve higher promotions, said Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government. In addition, he directed that officers who have succeeded in providing competent leadership at different levels of military life, above political ideology, be selected for promotion. The Chief Advisor said these things during the formal inauguration of the Army Chief Election Board-2025 on Sunday (July 20). Upon reaching the venue, the Chief Advisor was welcomed by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman. In this first phase of the promotion board, eligible officers of the rank of Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel of the Bangladesh Army will be considered for the next promotion. At this time, Professor Yunus said, in addition to fulfilling its responsibilities to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty, the Bangladesh Army has been making an important contribution to internal peace and order, stability and assisting the civil administration in dealing with disasters. At present, the army members have been fulfilling their responsibilities to assist the civil administration for some time. He sincerely thanked all the members of the army, starting from the army chief, for this sacrifice of the Bangladesh Army for the country’s needs. In his speech at the Promotion Board, the Chief Advisor at the beginning remembered all the martyrs, war-wounded and heroic freedom fighters who participated in the great war of independence, especially the martyrs of the armed forces and the army, including all the brave soldiers. In addition, he respectfully remembered all the wounded and martyred army members while on duty in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. At the same time, he respectfully remembered all the student masses who were martyred and injured in the July 2024 mass uprising. The Chief Advisor directed the members of the Election Board to emphasize the professional skills, leadership qualities, standards of discipline, honesty, trustworthiness and loyalty, and above all, suitability for the job for the officers for promotion.
