Home Affairs Advisor assures that no negligence will be done in the treatment of burn victims
Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the highest level of treatment is being provided to the burn victims in the Gazipur fire, including fire service personnel. He said, ‘The government is providing all necessary assistance to the burn victims. No negligence will be done in the treatment.’ He gave this assurance while visiting the Tongi accident victims admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Tuesday (September 23) morning.
The Home Affairs Advisor said, ‘As you know, a major accident took place yesterday (Monday). Four of our fire service personnel were burnt there. The condition of two of them is serious due to the extent of the burns and the condition of one is slightly less. This hospital is an international standard hospital. The treatment here is very good. The doctors here are trying their best. Pray to God for a speedy recovery.’
He also said, ‘The Fire Service, the Home Ministry and the government will provide all the necessary assistance for the treatment of the burnt victims.’
In response to a question from journalists about the removal of chemical warehouses, the advisor said, ‘When chemical accidents occur in Old Dhaka, those warehouses are shifted to Munshiganj. The Tongi incident is an unfortunate accident. An accident is an accident. We will do our best.’
Regarding the treatment of the burnt victims, Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said that the condition of all three of them is critical as more than 40 percent of their bodies have been burned. However, one is out of danger.
Incidentally, an explosion occurred at a chemical warehouse in the Notun Bazar Railgate Sahara Market area of Tongi, Gazipur at around 4:30 pm last Monday. A fire service officer and four firefighters were burned in the fire caused by the explosion. Seven units are working to control the fire.
Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of Dhaka Zone-3 Fire Service, said that fire service personnel rushed to the spot after receiving news of the explosion. When they started working to bring the fire under control, a fire service officer and three firefighters were burned.
