The government has decided to stop hilsa collection, transportation, marketing and storage for 22 days to ensure safe breeding. To protect mother hilsa, hilsa fishing will be stopped until November 3 based on the full moon of the month of Ashwin, taking into account the breeding time based on science.

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar confirmed this on Sunday.

She said that hilsa extraction will be closed from October 13 to November 3 to increase the breeding and production of hilsa. Due to lack of dredging and pollution in the river, the mother hilsa cannot come from the sea to the river to lay eggs. Therefore, this decision has been taken to prevent breeding of hilsa.

The advisor said, ‘We have Navy, Coast Guard, BGB, RAB and other law enforcement agencies will keep an eye on this; No one can store, extract, transport and market hilsa from anywhere.
