High Court orders restoration of looted stones within 7 days
The High Court has ordered the return of looted stones from Bholaganj in Sylhet to their original place within the next seven days. The court also ordered the submission of a list of those who looted the stones. A High Court bench of Justice Qazi Zinat Haque and Justice Ainun Nahar Siddiqa passed the order after hearing a writ petition in this regard on Thursday (August 14). Meanwhile, the High Court has fixed Sunday for hearing another writ petition filed to take appropriate legal action against those responsible for the looting of white stones from Bholaganj in Companiganj Upazila. The High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Syed Zahed Mansur fixed this date. The writ petition has said that the relevant government authorities should take appropriate action against those responsible for the looting of stones and that additional members of the law enforcement agencies be deployed there. Moreover, a request was also made to issue a rule seeking an explanation as to why the inaction of the relevant government officials in taking action against those responsible for the stone looting should not be declared illegal.
