Headmaster’s hand and leg broken by miscreants in Shariatpur

Md. Nurul Amin Ratan, headmaster of Bijri Upasi Tara Prasanna High School in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur, was beaten up and his hand and leg were broken by miscreants. The victim teacher Sheikh Nurul Amin Ratan and his family alleged that his right hand and ankle were broken in the incident.
The incident took place on Tuesday (February 24) afternoon in the ‘Tin Shop’ area on the east side of Bhojeshwar Bazar in Naria Upazila. It is learnt that Sheikh Nurul Amin Ratan has been serving as the general secretary of the Shariatpur district branch of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association and the president of the Nashasan Union Awami League of Naria Upazila for a long time.
Local sources and the injured headmaster Sheikh Nurul Amin Ratan said that while he was returning home by autorickshaw after supervising the development work of the school, a group of 7/8 people led by Naria Upazila Jubo Dal President Nixon Khan and Bhojeshwar Union Jubo Dal President Mizan Sikder stopped him. At one point, when an argument broke out over the formation of the school management committee, he was beaten with sticks. He was seriously injured. Locals rescued him and admitted him to a private hospital in Shariatpur. Later, he was sent to Dhaka for better treatment. Nurul Amin Ratan’s son Himel alleged, “My father was attacked and beaten in a planned manner. His hands and legs were broken due to the stick attack. We want justice for this incident.” However, the accused Naria Upazila Jubo Dal President Nixon Khan and Bhojeshwar Union Jubo Dal President Mizan Sikder denied the allegations and told reporters, ‘They were not in Naria at the time of the incident and were out of the schedule collection.’ They also claimed that false allegations have been made against them. Meanwhile, Naria Upazila BNP General Secretary Farid Ahmed Royal Majhi said, “I have heard about the incident. An investigation will be conducted. If anyone from our party is involved, organizational action will be taken.” Naria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Bahar Mia said that police were sent to the spot after receiving the information about the incident. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
