Hasnat Abdullah in a clash while trying to negotiate

Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, arrived at the scene of the clash while students from Dhaka University and seven colleges were in a fight. He was fired upon while trying to mediate between the two sides.

Hasnat arrived in the Nilkhet area at around 12:30 am on Sunday. When he tried to talk to the students from Dhaka College, they refused to talk to him.

Then, when Hasnat tried to calm both sides, he himself was fired upon. At that time, the students chanted slogans like ‘Bhuya Bhuya’ and ‘Esechhe Re Aaade – Futezhkhor Aaade’ targeting Hasnat. Later, he left the clash area and headed towards the DU campus.

Earlier, around 11 pm, students from seven colleges reached Mukti and Ganatra Toran from in front of Dhaka College. At that time, students from Sir A.F. Rahman Hall took up positions in front of the hall.

The chase and counter-chase began at around 11:30 pm. Dhaka University students chased students from seven colleges from the DU campus and crossed the Nilkhet area. Several people were injured in the incident. Police fired two rounds of sound grenades to control the situation.

Earlier, at 10:30 pm, students lifted the blockade from Science Lab intersection and entered the Dhaka College campus with a procession. Students from seven colleges entered the DU campus with more students from the Dhaka College residential hall and announced that they would surround the Pro-VC’s residence.
