Hasina should be hanged 1,400 times: Tajul Islam
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sought the maximum death penalty for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case of crimes against humanity committed in July-August. During the argumentative hearing of the case, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam remarked that Hasina should be hanged 1,400 times.
He also requested that former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal be given the maximum sentence for crimes against humanity.
He made this request to the judicial panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, on Thursday (October 16) afternoon.
Tajul Islam said, “1,400 students and civilians were killed in the July uprising. If one person is given the death penalty once for killing one person, then Sheikh Hasina should be hanged 1,400 times for killing 1,400 people, but this is not possible according to the law. That is why we are demanding strict punishment for her for crimes against humanity. If she is given this punishment, then the people of the country will get justice.”
At the same time, the chief prosecutor left the matter of punishment of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who testified as a government witness, to the court.
Later, the tribunal headed by Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar has fixed next Sunday for hearing the accused.
