Gunman kills 10 at Swedish school

Ten people have been killed in a shooting at an educational center in central Sweden, the European country. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, local time, in the city of Örebro, 200 kilometers west of the capital Stockholm. This information was reported by the British media outlet BBC.

Local police told the BBC that about 10 people were killed in the shooting at the school campus. The gunman is among the dead. He is believed to have carried out the incident alone. However, the motive for the shooting is not clear.

The bodies of all those killed in the attack were found inside the school building, according to the BBC report.

It also said that the educational center that was attacked was not for ordinary students. It is mainly for older people who could not complete primary or secondary education on time.

Swedish police initially described the incident as attempted murder, arson and serious weapons-related crimes. At that time, students from nearby educational institutions were prohibited from going out for security reasons. Later, the schools were evacuated when the situation normalized.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristiansen said it was a “very sad day for the country.”

School shootings are rare in Sweden, but the country has seen several major attacks in recent years. In March 2022, an 18-year-old student stabbed two teachers to death in Malmö. In January of the same year, a 16-year-old student stabbed a student and a teacher at a school in Kristianstad.

In October 2015, three people were killed in a racist attack at a school in Trollhättan. The attacker, who was armed with a sword, was later shot dead by police.
