Gulshan Traffic’s exceptional initiative to ban unsafe helmets

DMP’s Gulshan Traffic Division has taken exceptional steps to strengthen road safety and encourage the use of quality helmets. In this awareness campaign, low-quality unsafe plastic helmets were dismantled and warnings were issued.
This exceptional initiative was seen in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on Thursday (April 9) afternoon. The campaign, led by DMP’s Gulshan Traffic Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Mizanur Rahman Shelly, identified and destroyed unsafe and low-quality plastic helmets used by motorcyclists on the road.
The Gulshan Traffic Division said that many drivers and riders use low-quality plastic helmets responsibly only to avoid fines. But these helmets cannot provide any effective protection during an accident. Rather, they break and increase the risk of head and eye injuries. On the other hand, quality and approved helmets play an important role in protecting against serious injuries during an accident.
DC Mizanur Rahman Shelly said, “Following the law is not just about avoiding fines, but it is also very important to save lives.” He urged everyone to avoid ‘fake’ and unsafe helmets and use approved and certified helmets. He also said that it is important for drivers and riders to be aware and strictly follow traffic laws to reduce road accidents and fatalities. Although this initiative by the police is symbolic, its main goal is to increase public awareness through it.
