Grandmother found dead in her yard, granddaughter in a nearby field

A grandmother was hacked to death in Pabna’s Ishwardi and then her granddaughter was taken away and raped. This Saturday (February 28) morning, the police rescued the grandmother and granddaughter from the yard in the mustard field.
Earlier, the incident took place sometime around midnight on Friday in Bhabanipur Uttarpara village of Dashuria union of the upazila. The deceased are Joynal Khan’s mother Sufia Khatun (65) and daughter Jamila Akhtar (15), residents of Uttarpara in Bhabanipur. Joynal Khan lived in Dhaka in search of a livelihood. The grandmother and granddaughter lived together in the house.
According to locals, the police said that the neighbors came forward after hearing the sound of crying suddenly from the house at midnight yesterday. However, after some time, when the sound stopped, they returned. Later in the morning, the neighbors saw Sufia Khatun’s bloody body lying in the yard of the house. During the search for her granddaughter Jamila, her naked body was recovered from a mustard field near her house.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mominuzzaman confirmed the matter. He said, “Initially, it is believed that when the miscreants wanted to take away her granddaughter in the dark of night, the grandmother stopped her. Enraged, they hacked the old woman to death with a country-made weapon. Later, they took the girl to a nearby mustard field, raped her and strangled her to death.
On receiving the news, the police recovered the bodies of the two in the morning. The police officer also said that the entire matter is being investigated seriously to find out who killed them and why. Ishwardi Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Kumar said that the police are working on the matter. Legal action will be taken through the investigation.
